So apparently Osama Died
I'm pretty sure he was killed by Ramirez with a claymore. I'm sure that Canadians/British/Irish here are expecting me to be the average American and say "AMERICA FUCK YEAH!", so....AMERICA FUCK YEAHHH!!!!!11.
Now that that's out of my system, it is clear that this is not the end of a war, and this death is purely symbolic. It will however do a lot to garner support for an unpopular war, and an unpopular incumbent government. "Tomorrow there will be no shortage of volunteers, no shortage of patriots"
A surge of patriotism will probably sweep the nation, and stick for a few more years.
Can somebody say "OBAMA RE-ELECTION GUARANTEED"?
Feel free to contribute eh.

"Unpopular incumbent government"
Unpopular? Hardly, but it will boost the approve ratings of Obama just like it did for Bush when Saddam was captured. As of Obama's re-election being guaranteed? It's still not going to be an easy battle when there's still plenty on the table to debate about, particularly domestic affairs.
I love Obama and I'll be voting for him in 2012, but I'm just being a realist
The way I see it, Al Qaeda is going to react in three different ways: They're going to completely fall apart due to the lack of leadership and demoralization, cruise on forward like nothing happened, or we're going to see a surge in "terrorist activities".

Re: So apparently Osama Died
. The National debt is at a record high, but were still in a better position than we wouldve been with the republicans in the Executive branch.
And in the 04' election, national security was basically the only issue that existed and it was what got bush re-elected. I'm sure obamas got it in the bag for '12.
Basically the string of blind patriotism this will inspire will basically overshadow all of the real issue. In can say "What about our jobs?" and some dumbass can say "But we got Osama!!"

Lets just put it this way, all the talk about the National Debt, budget and spending cuts the Republicans are ranting about could be drastically reduced if the Bush era tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations (along with tax loop holes) were allowed to expire. Also factor in that the economy has been steadily getting better since Obama came into office.CHAMIKA wrote:. And we can't forgot about Bush being the most unpopular President (in terms of approval ratings when he left office) since in a long time even though we had the 9/11 attacks and Saddam being captured during his two terms. According to the Gallup polls (one of the most trusted independent polls), Obama's current rating is 46%, which can only go up after this.
Things that will be debated about in the next election:
- National Debt
- The current 3 wars
- Health Care
- Spending/budgeting
- Foreign Policy, particularly about the Middle East revolts
- Green jobs/oil
I don't think ZOMG BIN LADEN IS DEAD, is going to brush that all to the side.

Re: So apparently Osama Died
At the moment we got a whole range of Republican nominees that range from the crazies (Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Bachmann, Santorum, and ect.) to the more super serial like Newt Gingrich, Mike Hucklebee and Mitt Romney.Static Jak wrote:Btw, who are the strong Republican nominations for the election?
Newt Gingrich was the former Speaker of the House, but has issues with his personal life.
Mitt Romney was a former Governor mas Massachusetts, but passed a health care plan for his state that doesn't sit well with the GOP (Republican Party)
Mike Hucklebee was also a former Governor, but in the past as a governor he was "pro-government", which doesn't sit well with the GOP's current message of "smaller government".
I would say the three above would have the most chance of getting the Republican Nomination for 2012

And I can't help but laugh at all the conspiracy theorists about Osama.
