READ THIS OR YOUR FAMILY WILL BURN IN HELL (PC upgrade)

I wanna upgrade my PC, not for gaming (not first off, anyway) for music production. The main issue I'm having is RAM, CPU and soundcard. Not so much the soundcard but if I can upgrade that also then lovely jubly.

Can you guys point me in the direction? I'm on a fairly low budget and I'm running Vista (with a W7 disc waiting right here next to me).

What's your current CPU, RAM and Motherboard?

for music production you will need a solid soundcard + speakers or headset

I assume that you are running on a first gen intel board, (no i3, i5 or i7) if you can open your case and look at the board there should be a socket label that will tell you the pin set of the current CPU (it should be printed on the board right around where the CPU is) also how many slots for ram do you have?
