It was truly epic.
During the final season there were 2 stories, 1 looked as the plane never crashed, the other a few were still on the island. In the one they were still on the island in simple terms, they saved the island. The other story was spiritually created to get all the people who died on the island to come together spiritually(They had no idea they were ever on the island, but when they did something relative to what happened on the island in the story were the plane did not crash they had a flash remember and remembered to go to the Church to meet up), everyone who was in the Church went to what I believe was heaven.
Now some people chose not to go and some people did not remember.

The Alternate Universe was actually purgatory. The island itself wasn't. Hence Hurley crediting Ben with being an awesome number 2. And Christian explaining that the "Alternate Universe" wasn't based on time...Jack died when he died, some died earlier, some died later.
This 'purgatory' exists outside time really, as has been pointed out many times we have no idea when everyone died - Hurley could've lived for centuries, millennia even. It just brings back the central theme of reflection - the purgatory existed to really inform everyone how much the island experience meant to them, and achieving that moment of revelation - the series flashback - was the core reason for these characters accepting their new situation and deciding to move on.

Wait actually I don't get it. So the ALT Universe is Purgatory...but its not based on time. So Jack being there at the same I don't even know what to call it as Hurley, is just because. I am sorry kind of hard to explain a meeting with there being no time... And when he said " This place was created by you" did he mean the ALT universe(Purgatory) it self or the Church?

seeing as everyone is satisfied with how lost ended, would it be a good investment for me to start watching this from episode 1 ?

Yes watch lost! When 24 ends I am going to watch that from ep1 too. Never watched it in my life, but looks good.

ya i've found that watching tv has lost all luster unless its the office or hockey but when they release they blu rays or dvds ill pick them up and start watching on my own leisure

Thats explains it pretty well. I just got done watching it and was like wtf lol. But after seeing this i sort of get it.
If im honest though, it was still a bullshit ending to 6 years of tv.
