Nintendo 3DS MASSIVE PRICE DROP

I know some of us here aren't massive fans of handhelds (including me), but Nintendo just announced that the price of the 3DS is going to be dropped from $249.99 to $170 on August 12th. Also, those that buy (or have bought) the 3DS before the 12th gets 20 free games for download.

Looks like the 3DS isn't doing so well in terms of market share and sales if Nintendo has to resort to a large price drop barely a year after it was released...

nintendo also had to cut its projected net income by 82%
with that price drop every unit sold will be a loss
and the psp(yes that 6 year old sony handheld that doesn't sell well) outsold the 3ds 2 - 1 in the first quarter

the days of hand helds are over now that anyone can pull out their iphone and play games like infinity blade or pull out a wp7 and gain achievements

Nintendo will revive itself with the Wii2......

There are leaps ahead of Sony and M$ in terms of releasing a "next next gen" system. Also as I have said before as long as stable HackMii comes out quickly with a Homebrew launcher it will be hands down best system.

the wiiu is pretty much this gen with a terrible controller and no solid online service

All I gotta say is; 1 console that will be able to play games from ANY system = win

Oh well, at least i'll be getting 20 free games

I only lost $80, and if anything these 20 games together would cost over $100, so i'm fine.

I hear yeah, and I agree. I am sure Nintendo will be beefing up it's hierarchy and system security with the new system. The Wii was successfully soft modded so quickly it was not even funny. I doubt they want, or can afford for that matter to make the same mistake twice. Meaning WiiHack and the HackMii crew will have alot of work ahead of them. Unless the manage to get a prototype to start with like they did with the DS. A disgruntled ex-employee leaked them an early functionable console months before the release, I would have loved to see Nintendo's top guys shitting them selves as a stable, fully working homebrew was launched the same day as system release lol.

Yeah the wii U isnt a next gen console. Its practically the same as a 360 or ps3 in terms of hardware.

Also what drag said is true. Handheld gaming devices are just mobile phones now.

Really..... The Wii U is set to launch running an IBM n45 Power7 8-core multi-threading monster of a processor. The n45 Power7 has already seen stress testing at speeds of 4.15Ghz. Picture that in an 8 core chipset = 33.2Ghz of multi-threading glory vs the 360's IBM PowerPC 3.2Ghz triple core, or the PS3's IBM PowerPC "cell" which takes a single 3.2Ghz core and pushes threading to an 8 core shell (only 5 of which are actually actively accessed by the console, 1 is reserved for system and 2 are for developers, and this "cell" is not a true 8 core processor. Basically the the single processor handles any heavy load while the "cell" handles any dummy tasks)

So, with just this raw processing power the Wii U once successfully modded would in theory be able to run its system req's, emulate a 360 environment and a PS3 environment at the same time without breaking a sweat. All this while running a custom AMD R770 graphics chip(first found in the raedon 4890 series) clocked well over 1 Ghz and capable of running an unheard of for consoles DirectX 10.1 vs the 360's 500Mhz ATI that has issues with any modified DirectX 9.x or the PS3's DirectX 9.x 550Mhz Nvidia chip set.

This thing is going to be the meanest PC gaming rig you have ever seen, pushed into a tiny white box with a happy Nintendo logo lol. I am curious to see how then handle heat issues as there will bound to be some with all that power crammed into a tiny shell....

And AMD already confirmed the use of the r770.

Hardware does not lie, The CPU and GPU will be able to run circles around anything Sony or M$ have crammed into to a console to date. I am sure whatever is in dev from both companies will ruin the Wii U but with Nintendo hitting release far sooner then either of them they may grab market share for a short while.

Regardless, I am excited about it, i know Nintendo does not have a stable online community but you never know, they may have a few tricks up their sleeves. I am just saying from a tech stand point, this thing is beast and to watch it. Nintendo could be the "sleeper cell" of the gaming community.

Releasing the system as per current specs? Yes. Taking a loss? Yes. Reasonable price? Doubtful

if nintendo releases a high powered system for a high price i will send you any new release game of your choosing at the time

if im right and its a system slightly above 360 specs and comes out for $200 - $300 then you have to do a shot for shot remake of the scene from liar liar when he's speeding (i am serious)
