I'm still trying to make sense of what the fuck I just watched. For now, I'm subscribing to the indoctrination theory which makes me regret choosing synthesis.

If the theory holds true, then I've been duped by the reapers. Any other thoughts?

Same boat as you.

But, I still want a whole new 16 endings. Ones that are actually different and no plot holes.

So lemme get this straight, all the endings suck balls apart from the ones to be brought out soon in DLC?

Stay classy Bioware, stay classy.

Sounds like wishful thinking. Thing is, Bioware is unbelievably stubborn and hard headed. It's never their fault, ever. Even now they won't admit to any kind of mistake towards Dragon Age 2 despite the huge backlash. I guarantee they'll never admit to messing up ME3s ending, that one ending with a different colour. Even if they did bring out DLC, they'll just say it was always planned and never mention the ending.

Well of course. All Bioware has to do now is put out a good ending DLC, and it's a win-win for them. The fanboys are just going to eat it up. I know I would.

Also, this managed to gt on CNN.

At least Bioware recently addressed their mistake. As smug as it sounded, at least it's something. April should be an interesting month for Mass Effect.

It was all good up until the last like 5 minutes. Then the "endings" ruined almost everything.

Mass Effect 3 Ending *SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY* Empty Re: Mass Effect 3 Ending *SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY*

Ok, I just beat Mass Effect 3 with over 4000 War assets and choose the synthesis ending.

I think like most games, Bioware fell short of the massive hype that was behind their game. They promised straight from the first game that all the decisions the player made would carry on, ensuring that the ultimate fate of the galaxy would be different with each different play through. In reality, all our decisions were boiled down to just a simple number in the war asset screen that can be worked around with a few hours in the multiplayer.

To chalk it up, I'm not mad, just disappointed that all my hard work went to building my own special character amounted to nothing and the three choices in the end were the only choices that mattered. I could've fucked around in all three games and those three choices would've been the same.

That being said, I really don't get all this crying, hate and rage though. The game was a solid A in my book and if bioware hadn't hyped up the entire game series as a game driven by choice or tried so hard in the first two games to create that illusion of choice, I would've probably loved the ending. While I respect the choice that Bioware made to end it the way they wanted to end it, I felt like it came at the cost of spitting in the face of the millions of fans that poured so much time crafting their own Shepard.

Which, ironically, is what Bioware promised us, a chance to determine the fate of the galaxy through our choices. I R Disappoint.

Thing is, from what we've been hearing, it was largely down to Hudson and Walters, the lead writers. With every other part of the game, the whole writing team would pick it apart and edit it and so on. Hence why everything up to the end was pretty great. But for some reason, Hudson and Mac didn't allow this at all for the ending, Hudson especially.

And more than a few of the writing team weren't happy with this, enough that one of them used a forum account that hes been using for years now to vent, giving us a little inside info. Of course when this got out the posts disappeared and the writer shut up with Bioware saying it wasn't him. Typical stuff.

As for the ending, I could spend forever picking it apart. Why didn't Shepard tell this kid to piss off? Why didn't he ask why he looked like the kid he saw die and has been having nightmares over since? Why would synthetics build synthetics to kill organics so they won't build synthetics that will kill organics? Why did Shepard just decide to off himself based on a 5 minute talk with something he doesn't know or really understand, why didn't the relays go super nova?

So now the whole fleet we brought over to Earth is stranded, with a lot of those species unable to eat anything we have, let alone the fact that Earth is in shit and that even at its prime it relied on "farm planets." And of course that they're centuries away from other major systems now, plus FTL drives can't be used for that long otherwise they build up a lot of static energy that if not released with the aide of a station built for doing so, will fry everyone inside the ship.

The whole Synthetic thing makes little sense either. So what, EDI is half organic? It screams space magic in a series that has largely kept away from that kind of stuff.

How did my crew get back on the ship when they where on the ground with me? Did Joker somehow get a shuttle down there, since Cortez couldn't, get them and all the others back on the Normandy and jumped through the Relay while we were all still fighting?

Did any of my decisions count outside of some points like out of an arcade game? No matter who I recruited we got the same battle. With ME2, the last part, the suicide mission, was determined by what you did beforehand. Did you upgrade particular ship parts? Did you do loyalty missions? Did you pick the right guys for the right jobs and so on. What you got in return wasn't a number but a visual response. You saw the consequences of your decisions. In ME3s end, there was none of that.

All in all, it felt lazy and disconnected from the entire series.

They really fucked up the Reapers:
ME1 Reapers: Our motives are beyond your comprehension because WE are beyond your comprehension. You are nothing and you will die like nothing.
ME2 Reapers: Our motives are to expand our species and improve yours. Prepare for ascension, mortals.
ME3 Reapers: Our motives are really fucking retarded. We have to destroy everyone to save... everyone? I don't know- seriously man, just roll with it. We have no clue what we're doing either.

I won't be picking up any DLC with the game in its current form. Why would I buy DLC when I'd still be left with the same ending that takes none of my choices into account nor does it give me any kind of epilogue? After everything, I don't feel like shelling out more to Bioware.

But putting aside the whole end story and how little it made sense, the last kicker is something I don't think many have noticed. Does anyone know what the very last words in the Mass Effect trilogy were? Want to know? Ok, the last words of the whole Trilogy are "Downloadable Content." Says it all really.

Your right, the ending was incredibly cheap and lazy in comparison to how great the rest of the game was.

While I don't normally like to tear apart video game stories (because I don't generally don't expect great stories in games), it felt like the ending was left purposely disconnected and constrained as a sort of lazy set up for a next game trilogy or spin off in the Mass Effect Universe. The fate of the fleets and Earth, the status of the galaxy, the "true" inner motives of the Reapers, destruction of the mass relays, and many other loose ends were left unanswered to allow for some extra room for the development next trilogy. Also, with the millions of sales that Mass effect drew in, you can be damn sure there will be some sort of continuation in the future.

Essentially, I see EA or Bioware pulling a Halo 4 for the Mass effect franchise.

All the components are there if we compare that to the premise that Halo 4 is based on. During the Shepard's encounter with the Prothean VI on Thessia, I noticed that the VI said "the Reapers are only servants of the pattern. They are not its master". Then in the epilogue (the one with the star gazer and the child), the child says "tell me another story about the Shepard." In a nut shell, we got:

A new, greater and more evil threat? [Check]
The fate of galactic civilizations (post-war) left unanswered to act as the setting for the next game? [Check]
Indications that the hero may be alive. [Check]
Epilogue hints on a new story [Check]

Bioware has everything it needs for a new trilogy and with the massive amount of money that mass effect brought in, they're not putting aside the cow cash anytime soon. While this move would've worked in a linear shooter like Halo, this shit doesn't fly in a games like Mass Effect where all you're choices were supposed to have an effect on ultimate fate of the galaxy. It's like someone walked in during the middle of Mass Effect 3's development and said that they wanted a new trilogy but because of all the potential different endings the game could've had, it wouldn't have fit the new story.

Of course, I might be just over thinking it and it was just really terrible writing done on purpose as an "excuse" for DLC content.

Everything I did in ME1 and ME2 made no gosh darn difference in the end. D:

But the ending was decent. I chose the blue choice.
