Well I'm sure with google being involved, it's actually bringing awareness to more people.

Honestly, a little online petition isn't going help for what's potentially coming ahead...

Lets face it, these two bills, SOPA and PIPA are basically DEAD in water before it even entered the floor of the Congress because right now, they're stuck in "congressional limbo", meaning it's either been shelved by a committee or its waiting to be reviewed. However, if there's some crazy off chance that it actually does make it to the floor of the Congress, there's three big obstacles it'll have to overcome: Being passed in both the House and Senate with a majority, a Presidential Veto, and Judicial review on whether or not it's in violation of the Constitution.

Now to get down to the gritty details; Numerous members of both the House and Senate of Congress already opposes the bill to begin with (before it was even mention on the interwebz) and it had very little supporters to begin with (the of vast majority of them are "undecided"). However, if by some fluke that it actually does pass in both chambers of Congress, it goes directly to the President for signing, BUT, Obama has said numerous times had he doesn't support SOPA or PIPA and will veto both bills if it lands on his table. Now, what if the President caves in and actually signs the bills? Then it needs to face the wraith of Supreme Court, which I may remind everyone here that they stupidly equated fucking Corporations to PEOPLE and therefore corporations have the right to freedom of speech like regular people do (basically money=speech). What do you think it's going to happen when the Supreme Court sees SOPA or PIPA? They're going to tear it to pieces, that's what.

Here's the REALLY IMPORTANT PART. Even though SOPA and PIPA as a whole are essentially dead, we run the risk of Congress potentially carving up the bills, taking certain pieces of it and try and pass those as separate acts. Or if they're really sneaky assholes, they'll stick those pieces of SOPA/PIPA into important bills like budget or tax reform as amendments even though it has NOTHING TO DO with budget or taxes and pass it.

So... normally signing a petition like this is a great thing to show that you're against a bill. BUT! When it runs the risk of being carved up and stuck in other bills that we don't know about, there's only thing that Americans can do.

Call their State Representative and Senator and tell them you are AGAINST CENSORSHIP of the Internet, because who ultimately reads the bills? They do.



Sometimes I think I read too much politics and news for my good... All it really does is make me more disappointed in my Government...

Oh yea, the black outs from Wikipedia and Reddit are a way to show Congress that, we, the users of the interwebz, stand together and oppose SOPA and PIPA.

Basically putting the final nail on the coffin.
